Residential central ACs range from 1.5 tons (small condo) to 5 tons (large home). The right size for your home comes from a Manual J — usually 24,000–48,000 BTU/hr (2 to 4 tons) for typical Mississauga single-family homes.
Oversizing is more common than undersizing. An oversized AC short-cycles, doesn't dehumidify well, costs more upfront, and uses more electricity. We size to actual heat gain, not "you've got 2,000 sq ft so 3 tons."
