Electrical Safety Authority of Ontario — required for electrical work, including HVAC electrical hookups.
The ESA regulates electrical work in Ontario. ECRA (Electrical Contractor Registration Agency) is the licensing body. Any HVAC contractor doing the electrical hookup on a furnace, AC, or heat pump must be ECRA/ESA licensed.
We coordinate with our licensed electrician on installs that require new circuits or panel work. ESA-permitted work includes a pull-permit fee and a final inspection — both of which we handle and include in the quote.
If a contractor offers to "just splice it in" without an ESA permit, that's a red flag.
