Airflow & ducts

Static pressure

The 'resistance' your blower is fighting to push air through the ductwork. Too high = poor airflow + worn blower.

Healthy static pressure in a residential system is under 0.5 in WC (inches of water column). Above 0.7 = the blower is straining; above 1.0 = expect equipment failure within a year.

Causes of high static pressure:
- Filter too restrictive (1-inch MERV 13 is a common offender)
- Undersized returns
- Closed dampers
- Crushed or kinked flex duct

We measure static pressure with a manometer at the supply and return. Fixing it is targeted — usually a return upgrade or filter swap, occasionally a blower replacement.
