ERV
Energy Recovery Ventilator — like an HRV, but also transfers humidity between airstreams.
ERVs transfer heat AND moisture between the incoming and outgoing air streams. In summer, the ERV blocks humid outdoor air from entering. In winter, it holds existing indoor humidity inside.
For most GTA homes (zone 6, mixed humidity), an ERV is the right pick. You stay around 35–45% RH year-round without needing a separate humidifier or dehumidifier.
Sizing follows ASHRAE 62.2: roughly 7.5 CFM per occupant + 1 CFM per 100 ft². Quality models run quietly enough you forget they're there. Lifebreath, Venmar, and Panasonic Intelli-Balance are reliable picks.
