Ratings & sizing

BTU/hr

BTU per hour — the rate at which heating or cooling capacity is delivered.

Equipment is rated in BTU/hr. A 60,000 BTU/hr furnace can deliver 60,000 BTUs of heat every hour at full burn. AC tonnage converts: 1 ton = 12,000 BTU/hr.

Real-world delivery is lower than nameplate when:
- Ductwork is undersized
- Refrigerant charge is off
- Filter is clogged
- Equipment is older and has lost capacity

We measure delivered BTU on commissioning — temperature differential across the air handler × airflow × specific heat = actual BTU output. Confirms the install matches the nameplate.
