Ontario Heat Pump Rebates 2026: What's Still Available

Greener Homes, Enbridge HER+, Save on Energy — what you can stack in 2026, eligibility, and how to actually claim them.

· 5 min read

Heat-pump rebates change yearly. As of April 2026, here's what's actually available in Ontario, what stacks, and how to claim each one. Numbers verified at time of writing — programs can change without notice.

1. Canada Greener Homes Loan

Up to **$40,000 interest-free** for energy retrofits. 10-year amortization. Heat pump installs qualify, as do furnaces meeting efficiency thresholds, water heaters, insulation, windows, and EV chargers.

  • **Status:** Active through Natural Resources Canada
  • **How to claim:** apply online before starting work, pre-approved energy auditor must do an EnerGuide assessment first

2. Canada Greener Homes Grant

Up to **$5,000** for heat-pump-only retrofits. The original grant program is in transition; verify current status before counting on it. Some streams have shifted to provincial co-delivery.

  • **Eligibility:** primary residence, single-family or low-rise multi-family
  • **How to claim:** EnerGuide pre-audit + post-audit required

3. Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+)

Up to **$7,800** in stackable rebates for Ontario gas customers:
- $4,500 for cold-climate heat pump
- $1,000 for heat pump water heater
- Air sealing, insulation, windows: smaller per-measure rebates

  • **Eligibility:** existing Enbridge Gas customers (most of GTA), single-family detached, semi-detached, row, low-rise
  • **How to claim:** EnerGuide pre-audit, install, post-audit, submit through Enbridge portal

4. Save on Energy

Smaller incentives ($300–$1,000) on smart thermostats, energy-efficient AC, and heat pumps. Often layered automatically through your hydro provider when an enrolled contractor does the install.

5. Federal Heat Pump Tax Credit (US, not Canada)

Doesn't apply in Canada — sometimes Ontario homeowners ask because the US has one.

Stacking

Most stack. Typical full stack on a $14,000 heat-pump install:

  • Greener Homes Grant: $5,000
  • Enbridge HER+: $4,500
  • Save on Energy: $500–$1,000
  • **Net out-of-pocket: ~$3,500–$4,500**

Plus you can finance the remainder through the interest-free Greener Homes Loan.

The audit catch

Most programs require an EnerGuide pre-audit AND post-audit. Cost: ~$600 total. The audit itself is rebatable in some programs.

Our role

We're a registered installer. We line up the paperwork, provide the install documentation the auditor needs, and confirm equipment models meet program eligibility before quoting. You don't have to figure out which models qualify — we only quote ones that do.
